I think there remains the most serious risk to people in the USA of another major terrorist attack...not in spite of all Mr Bush did, but because of all that Mr Bush and his predecessors (in both parties) in the Oval Office have done. They have killed and maimed and made miserable a great many people in Muslim populations. Some of those people will continue to try to hurt Americans any way they can.

The error in American thinking is that America is the victim in this situation...not so. America is the architect of this situation and its own people and people in many other places are the victims of what happens as a result of American foreign policy in the Middle East ever since the 1950s. It did not all suddenly start with Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda. It started long before them. It will not all suddenly end with the end of Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda.

Obama is going to inherit the mess now, and he may well have to deal with a major terrorist incident on his watch. I hope not, but there's no guarantee that it won't happen.
