Thread Name: Why folk clubs are dying
Subject: RE: Why folk clubs are dying
". I do see a decline in audience numbers per venue and a move from booking guests to singarounds. I interpret that trend as a switch from clubs intended to promote folk music to a wider public to clubs intended to provide their members with a place to sing" Doesn't have to be a bad thing as long as the members are prepared to remove the digit and improve the general standard and as long as the organiser are prepared to encourage and help this to happen. The regular singers always used to be the stars of the show before (apparently) the organisers decided that it was easier to use guests as a crutch. Jim Carroll
