In concert, Steve once gave a long spoken introduction that included a discussion of the value of alcohol to the song-writing process. He related that he wrote all but the last verse originally. That's the song he recorded. But he sent the song to "The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy" AKA David Allan Coe. DAC told him it was not the "perfect country and western song" because of what it did not include. So Steve wrote the last verse and DAC approved. I believe DAC relates the story in a similar way on his album.
