Thread Name: Coal Mine Songs
Subject: RE: Coal Mine Songs
Never did sing mining songs myself, probably through having been a miner many years ago.

However, the BBC radio ballad "The Big Hewer" contains many wonderful songs that Ewan McColl wrote for the radio ballad. I used to have it on tape, (open reel....) but lost it over the years.

Some of the songs appear on "Songs from the Radio Ballads - Ewan McColl & Peggy Seeger, Vols 1 & 2" that you can get via the BBC still, but the actual radio ballads? Perhaps somebody knows if they are available?

It has it's own thread but The Ballad of Springhill, whilst relating a disaster in Nova Scotia, is a sensitive poweful song, and shows Ewan & Peggy at their joint song writing best.
