Last autumn, I was walking through a small village in Galway, in the West of Ireland, wearing a rather fetching Breton jumper and sporting a tan (Mind you, the latter was only because I'd been receiving UV treatment for one reason or another). A car stopped and a woman leaned out the window to ask directions: "Excuse me" sez she "Do you speak English?". "Jeez, I hope so", I replied "or me mother will never forgive me!".
