I was in State College for three years in the 1970s. I did not find the folk music there at the time. But grad students tend to be pretty isolated.

Beware of football days - they make all streets in town one way toward the stadium before the game and all one way away from the stadium after the game. I would note the football days to be sure to get all errands done well before the game.

Most of the folkies I meet are aware of mudcat and/or the digital tradition.
