I believe the story is told that the way King Khandu's line came to Mississippi was the consequence of a single moment of decision. Standing on hte quay in Barcelona, unsure whether to take steerage to America or hire out on a steamer bound for Liverpool, Khandu's great-great-grandfather stood, bemused. His mother's spirit--she was Polish--reveled in ignorance and uncertainty; his father's spirit (he was Sicilian) sought bravado, machismo, manipulation and attack for a solution. In the timeless synthesis between opposing forces, Khandu's great-great-grandfather, half-Polish and half-Sicilian, made himself an offer he couldn't understand. And the rest is history.
