Earlier this week, a team of scientists cracked the genetic code of the H1N1 influenza virus, also known as swine flu.

Dr. Frank Plummer, scientific director of the Winnipeg-based National Microbiology Lab, said the DNA sequence will help scientists understand how the virus works and how it changes in humans and scientists are rushing to develop the vaccine so it will be ready to roll out in time for the annual flu season.

Changes in influenza viruses are difficult to predict, but Plummer said he thinks the vaccine will protect against the current strain.
