I have no problem letting the thread drop off naturally. I don't feel the need to refresh it every day, nor do I feel the need to have it closed.
As I've said before, I have family members who are not part of the 'Cat who check in several times a day and find it comforting. We don't view it as a painful reminder. We have enough of those every day and this thread isn't one of them.
