These alerts make people feel like they're doing something constructive. Most of the time, they're not. Once in a while, we miss something and then you can PM Joe maybe the next day. If there are a couple of people who PM me once in a while, it's a different story than being a designated mostly-ineffective complaint target whom everybody PMs.

In this case, I would have seen the messages before I got the PMs, but I was alarmed at the number of new PMs I got, so I checked those first.
