You are quite right about the excitement and anticipation. When I lived and worked in York, I had good friends at the NRM who would give me running times for locos coming out of York. I remember waiting for Hardwicke one day and being an hour late back to the museum that I worked in but it was worth it. I also clocked the midland compound and leander, the duchess and so many others.That feeling has been with me since I was five or younger (A long time ago now) when my dad and I would walk to Sydenham hill on a Sunday to watch the Golden Arrow going past, often with a Bullied pulling it.It was still there a few weeks back when I got the chance to see Gresley and Union of S.A at Church Fenton. It was there when I worked on the NYMR laying track and guarding, when I was on the Bluebelland others and it's there every chance I get to see a steam locomotive.For the rest of the uncivilised world try this...
