Thread Name: BS: Espresso machine - an ATM for books
Subject: BS: Espresso machine - an ATM for books
I have heard about this a couple of years ago but now they are being installed..

ATM for books

As a printer, this is actually nothing new..
various printer/copiers have been able to print and bind books for a while. (Doing saddlestitch, coil, or perfect binding - like paperbacks)

But the significance here is that one can choose from a huge number of books that are out of print and in the public domain
and they are working on a deal to include copyright holders for existing books.. And print it out affordable cost.

And for your own publishing, now you can print one or a dozen books, when not long ago you had to do 500 or more to be worthwhile..

Ive gone into huge bookstores like Chapters here in Canada
and they didnt have the books I was looking for.. Sure you can get things on Amazon, but sometimes they are out of print.

I don't know how this might affect regular book market - but generally paperbacks that don't sell - the bookstore strips off the cover and sends it back to the publisher for a refund. The inside is discarded or recycled.. That waste might be reduced.

I know that kindle and various ebook readers exist but personally I like the feel of a book so I don't see myself using one.
