Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Fesitval 2009
You mean the camp site out towards two-tree island that the festival used to use, next to the little washroom and loo that is there (I assume for boat-users?) "Unless you fancy camping on the mud!" - nonsense, it wasn't at all muddy.

I can't see why the existence of "a substantial earth dyke" to keep out vehicles should have ruled out continuing to provide a campsite for tents, even if it meant that caravans couldn't be used. What's the big problem in allowing people to park outside the dyke, while carrying their tent across to the site itself? The assumption seems to be that festival goers are layabouts incapable of lifting anything heavier than a pint glass or a guitar.

As for "campsite management", all that's required would surely be to have someone on duty during the day to take the payment for camping and to provide a minimal deterrent against theft. (Everyone knows that in a campsite you leave stuff in your tent at your own risk. If need be you could have peopel sign a release from when they arrive.)

The festival used to get the scouts or the local cadets to help out with that, presumably for a contribution. The whole thing was self-financing. The minimal but adequate toilet and washing facilities are there already, to the best of my understanding - and even if they've gone, it's not really a very big deal to provide those kind of facilities.

Once again - does anybody know of any other folk festivals in the UK where there are absolutely no camping facilities?
