A glider ride over the Napa Valley will take you soaring with the eagles, condors and other boids (depends on what's there when) and is truly a beautiful experience.

San Diego has a really fine Maritime Museum, centered around the nineteenth century barkentine wool clipper now known as Star of India (ex Euterpe with four or five other lovely boats on exhibit, including (the last time I was down there) a Russian submarine.
