It has been noted many times before that British/European visitors are often dumbfounded by the vast distances involved in traveling in the US ~ especially the West. Somehow, the reality encountered after actually arriving here is sometimes well beyond what some visitors were able to imagine before their trip

In regard to the Pacific Coast Highway (Rt 101): I routinely recommend driving south-to-north so that you're in the inside lane, not so close to the edge of the cliff(s). For visitors from overseas who are accustomed to driving on the opposite side of the road (and thus already susceptible to a bit of disorientation), I would think this would be especially worth noting.
