Round here it is mostly young males who consider their testosterone will protect them from all accidents - not even with the excuse of using their phones at the time. Sometimes fixing the motorist (quite legitimately driving down a fast dual carriageway) with a hard stare before launching themselves off the pavement. We've noticed the phenomenon over the years and we feel it's getting worse. On the other hand, we have got an over-population problem and perhaps it's good to remove certain individuals from the gene pool - but I'd rather not have any injuries or deaths on my own conscience so would prefer not to be involved in this drastic solution.
At Glastonbury on my arrival (when I had to drive through the festival hordes to reach my camping spot) I was astonished how many people couldn't hear the car engine and seemed amazed to see the vehicle, despite using the horn and having stewards yelling through megaphones. And how many thought that simply standing still in front of me would solve the problem.
