Goodness me! Thank-you all very much. I am currently recovering from last Monday's meniscus operation. It is going great: no pain, no crutches (since Friday) and I can stretch the leg fully. I am hoping to be back in training by autumn. Summer holidays give me time to practise a little guitar and mandoline.
Does anyone know about foxes? I couldn't sleep this morning, so I was up before sun up to visit "my" fox in the nature reserve. He duly appeared and was trotting through his normal foraging area. He then made it clear that I was not welcome. I was watching him from about 100m through binoculars and then several times he turned and let out a sound which was something between the croak of a crow and the angry hiss of a cat. I am not well up on fox lingo, but I guess his remark would have translated as something similar to "Piss off alanabit". Still, I guess you can't please everyone.
