In Virginia if you need medical treatment following a dog bite, then doctor or hospital are required to ask about the animal and submit a report to police or animal warden.

In the case of my youngest child, the attacking dog (a jack russell) belonged to a police officer who went with us to hospital. Hospital staff said if he could produce up to date rabies vaccination record then they needn't do a report. He promised to pay for insurance deductible for emergency room visit, but never did.

I have been attacked by poodle who had recently had pups and frightened nearly to death by a German Shepherd (Alsatian).

I have had cat scratch fever from a cat attack and my god I was so so sick for months.   I was hunched over like a question mark for weeks with joint pain.

Still prefer cats to dogs. I like both, but kitties are my favourite.
