My dad used to sing, back in the fifties:

"Twas midnight on the ocean, not a streetcar was in sight
The barefoot boy with shoes on stood sitting in the light . . . "

He also sang "be kind to your webfooted friends" exactly as posted above by EBarnacle.
I think my dad was born around 1918.
