Or maybe he changed the line because one sounds like a bit of an arrogant jerk when singing a line like "I've kissed the ladies and left them crying" (the assumption being, of course, that every lover you've left is heartbroken after you've gone). ; D
Anyway I do think the song has more 'universality' with that line changed, no matter the gender of the singer(s).

I hope he's raking in the royalties, too. It's a beautiful song.
