Carl Sagan once formulated, or quoted, the rules of a good intellectual discussion. I can't remember them all off hand but one of them is that you should never descend to the level of personal attack. Attack the argument, never the person. I'll try to look them up and get them into this post.

As hard as it is to believe, the other person usually truly believes his point of view is correct and logical. A personal attack gains no points and wins no argument. That being said there is no need for the language that surfaces for an argument cannot feel the sting of the language. Only the other person can. If someone is unable to formulate a reasoned alternative pont of view then his/her post is of little importance anyway and can be disregarded.
