I think some of them are genuinely misguided, convinced the national government should be a general store with a cracker barrel and a few passers-by dropping in from time to time.

It is understandable to want to strengthen individual rights and State's rights. But with our present population and situation--a web-connected international force dependent on playing in the world -- it just doesn't work out that way.
