"most hated prime minister" - no one even compares to Thatcher when it comes to being hated.

Gordon Brown may come across as wooden, and he's made some mistakes all right (notably backing Blair for all those years, and carrying on with they New Labour nonsense when he had the chance to change things), but I can't think of much he's done that would merit hatred. The financial meltdown happened on his watch, but I can't envisage that a different prime minister, or a different party, would have handled it as well, let alone done better.
