Wow, what a great thread! I've been wanting the words to "Rawhide" and "Johhny Yuma" for ages, and now I've got 'em.

I was among the many Davy Crockett fanatics. Me and my friend Johhny Cartwright fought the battle of the Alamo innumerable times, atop my parents oil tank, finally dying under an unstoppable horde of kamikaze Mexicans. Dramatic stuff. He was bigger and tougher than me, so he got to be Crockett and I played Georgie Russel.

I have since come to have quite a liking for Mexicans...

One more odd cultural note (I know most of you are Americans)...the Swamp Fox was not so popular in Canada, since we rather liked the British redcoats up here. They saved our bacon quite a few times. Accordingly, the Canadian kids I knew made fun of him by changing some of the words..."Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, rides through the glen, falls in the mud with his fifty men" (and some stuff that was more insulting than that...)

Needless to say, we have mixed feelings about Mel Gibson's latest movie as well.

I'll stop right now, before I rekindle the War of 1812. Ha Ha
