It was Saturday Night of the Getaway, traditionally the "Big Night" of staying up til the crack of dawn. A dozen of us were in Peace cabin at about 2:30 and Barry comes in and joins the singing, with big grin and wide eyes. We had been doing ballads and mountain music, and Barry was singing along. There was a pause, and I asked him if he'd do a shanty.
With the usual gusto, Barry launched his song, and we all joined in the refrain, soon stomping our feet in time. It was the kind of injection of energy we needed to keep us going for the next two hours. After he finished, I caught him nodding once, and then waking up to sing along, ready for bed but unwilling to give up yet. Sometime later I looked for him, and he was just gone and nobody had seen him slip away.
That's the way I feel now Barry. Thanks for staying with us as long as you did. I really don't know whether you went off for some peaceful sleep, or maybe just another sing in some other cabin.

Farewell, Pal.
