Jim: Can I draw your attention to my thread ongoing "A Letter from John Masefield", about an autograph letter in my possession written to my late wife when she subedited an article by the then Poet Laureate when she worked in women's magazines. As late as the early 1960s he still handwrote the long-ſ (note that the Character Palette of my Apple i-Mac actually provides one), especially as part of the double letter [so that he writes Preſs]; &, somewhat ambiguously in his signature, where the middle s is somewhat extended — certainly more so than any of his final letter-s's.
