Nelson wasn't blind in one eye. He was temporarily blinded in one eye in 1793, but his sight returned. The Admiralty disallowed his claim for compensation.

I know that this isn't the popular view of Nelson, but Britain has had much more worthy naval heroes. His victories were won by having better captains and better crews than the enemy. His tactics at Trafalgar turned out favourably, but were quite a risk, in that he voluntarily 'crossed his own T' in light winds. Still it's often better to have a lucky commander than a skillful one!
