I've used breakeryard.com on a few occasions to source spares... they take your details, and invite participating scrapyards to submit a quote.

I suppose it's not surprising that bin men are a little less than careful... not the pleasantest of jobs, I'd guess, and probably not very rewarding. No excuse, maybe, abd I certainly wouldn't want the job!
