We had men's quartet (barber shop style) back i9n the '40s when I was in high school and the version I sorta remember went like this:
The animals had a fair
The birds and beasts were there
The big baboon by the light of the moon
Combed his auburn hair
The monkey he got drunk
And climbed up the elephant's trunk
The elephant sneezed
And fell on his knees
And that was the last of the monk, the monk, the monk etc
