I am not sure that Emile Heskey ever struck fear into the hearts of defences anywhere! I never did understand why Michael Owen was jettisoned at Liverpool to make way for him. Owen and Fowler always did score more goals together.
As a Manchester City fan, you would not expect me to feel the same way about oil money as some of the previous posters. In our defence, I will say that Micah Richards and Sean Wright Phillips came through our youth scheme and that there are one or two fringe players like Michael Johnson, who could make it. Steve Ireland has been with us long enough to be considered home grown. It was sad that we sold off Daniel Sturridge and Ched Evans, which to some extent endorses what you are saying Villan. I guess the oil sheiks are not going to be patient!
Getting back to our big World Cup Match against the USA, I wonder how many first choice players England will need to have available to have a realistic chance of making an impact on the World Cup? It would take unreal luck to have Rooney, Gerrard and Terry all fit and in form at the same time. Let's just pray that whatever else happens that Stevie G does not get injured. England are not going to beat any of the big sides without him and this is probably going to be the last chance he will have to make an impact on a major tournament. Those who want England to do badly must be sticking pins into effigies of Steve Gerrard at the moment!
