WS sums up my beliefs very well. Perhaps I was being too polite but it would appear that Shaw and Rauscher's work has been discredited to the extent that other researchers have been unable to replicate it. I don't believe that there has been any form of vendetta against the pair, except that other qualified people have smelt a rat. Nothing would please me more than to see that the Mozart Effect really works, but the more we truly crave something good the greater the possibility that we will gravitate to a flawed answer - either from people who genuinely believe that they have the answer, or from charlatans who want to increase their fame, power or wealth.
