I've got a recording of "By the Hush" by the Woods Tea Co. which I like a lot. They have the first line of the fourth verse as "And one more to us was said, if you're shot or lose your head". I like your version better, Alic, it makes more sense. They also include one more verse, which is something like this:Now I'd think myself in luck to be fed on Indian buck,
