Rik was born in Boston's South End and Baptized at Holy Cross Cathederal and graduated from jamaica Plain High School.

A plaque honoring Rik Tinory was erected in 1976 at 2 Center Plaza. In Boston's Scollay Square 10,000 people attended the gala.

Rik Tinory prompted Boston City Councilor Albert "Dapper " O'Neil, Mayor Kevin White and numerous dignitaries to change the name of Government Center back to the original historic name of Scollay Square.The history of which is documented in Boston's Official Gazzette.

In 1979 Rik was the Executive Producer and recorded the historic visit of Pope John Paul II
