I gave my best friend a red polar fleece hat for Christmas the year she turned fifty. I wasn't even thinking of the Red Hat Society, but Cecilia immediately thought that was what I had in mind, and was thrilled to bits. I wish I had had the nous to do it on purpose, but it was almost better this way -- serendipity.

I'm wearing my purple shirt today, with red mittens and a red scarf. No red hat -- gotta fix that.
