This weather doesn't bode well for this year's crop of eagle chicks. My wife has been watching two nests on the webcams in the greater DC area, Blackwater in West Virginia and Shepherdstown in Maryland. In both nests the eagles had already laid eggs. The eagles were valiantly trying to keep their nest bowls free of snow but by this morning the WV nest looked overwhelmed and it's very cold. The eggs need to be incubated at a constant 105 degrees F. and that's not possible under these extreme conditions.
