Victims of sexual assault also often blame themselves for having been raped, making the same mistake in thinking that confuses responsibility (and just what one is responsible for) and blame that others make when they consider the victim to be partly to blame. It is essential to their healing that they shed any notion that they are responsible for the actions of the rapist.
