Bryn, there are three pubs facing onto the market place itself. The Bull's Head, Boar's Head and Baker's Vaults. They all used to have music regularly, not so much these days, and mostly blues rather than folk.
There may have been more folk music there back in the 70s and early 80s. Peter in Stockport should be able to confirm that; it would have been someone attached to the Goode/Hood axis running it, whatever it was!
