My grandfather emigrated to the US when he was 16 in the late 1880s. The story is that one of his jobs was as a labourer on the Brooklyn Bridge while they were still builiding it. I always point it out to my daughter when we see in on TV or on a movie - she always says 'is that the bridge my great-grandad built?' Indeed it is...
