You should have had that when you were waiting around in a hospital, I'm sorry it took so long to get to you.

Roald Dahl is my favorite short story writer. That particular collection has some real gems. The rat catcher stories are, well, you have to read them. And "Parson's Pleasure" is simply the best short story, my absolute favorite of all time. It keeps going and going after you finish the last words on the page. I love the way he writes so that you do a lot of the work, but get such pleasure from it.

Many of the characters are recurring, and you can read some of his short stories strung together like a novel. But they all stand alone as well.

I sent Michelle a collection of my favorite non-fiction essays. I chose these because they're short, some are very short, so if you're tired, pick one that is only a page long, read it, and then take a nap. For both of you, these are meant to entertain, but also, to share what really talented wordsmiths can do when they sit down in front of a typewriter.
