Sonnet 01/12/00                        CDXCVIII

Cassandra, muse of my dreams, you offer
A hope for conversation, and for smile.
To stare into your eyes, and perhaps stir
Within heart, desire; To look at you, while
You speak of future dreams, that would be bliss.
But, shall I risk what little I now hold
In hope that I might earn from you one kiss?
Would you have me be distant, or be bold?
As muse, you hold the power to create,
Or doom desires: I dare not risk the voice
That whispers verse into my head, that Fate
Has silent kept for years. I have no choice.
I wait upon your words: All I might do
Would not, without your smile, to verse be true.
