I also remember the song being several verses. It was sung by a student at a "hootennanny" in 1964 while I was attending Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. My version I remember as:

A sol, a sol, a soldier went to war,
Two pis, two pis, two pistols by his side

I, too, was hoping to get the full version for a local bar guitarist who is singing similar bawdy songs.
