Just found this by accident when looking upsomething else. Four years late, can I just point out that, in case someone reads the above in a literal sense:
a) the song is not by Dick Gaughan but by the late Jock Purdon;
b) it is a tribute to the men of the Harraton pit in County Durham;
c) it was written long before the Miners' strike.
