Subject: Lyr Add: SHANGHAI ROOSTER YODEL (Cliff Carlisle)
SHANGHAI ROOSTER YODEL
As recorded by Cliff Carlisle, 22-Oct-1931.

What makes a Shanghai crow at the break of day? (2x)
To let the Dominicker hen know the head man's on his way. [Yodel]

It takes a Dominicker hen to enjoy the sun. (2x)
It takes a Shanghai rooster to put the Dominicker on the run. [Yodel]

The Shanghai says the Dominicker hen can lie. (2x)
Said she loves nobody but me. I caught her flirtin' with another Shanghai. [Yodel]

In the old barnyard he spied the Dominicker hen. (2x)
There's no need for you to run, for you know that you can't win. [Yodel]

SHANGHAI ROOSTER YODEL NO. 2
As recorded by Cliff Carlisle, 26-Sep-1932.

When the old Shanghai takes his morning ride, (2x)
You can bet your life the Dominicker's by his side. [Yodel]

The Dominicker said it was the truth, but I know she lied, (2x)
When she said that she walked back from her ride. [Yodel]

The Shanghai loves to lay in the sun and rest, (2x)
But of all the things in the wide, wide world, he loves the Dominicker best. [Yodel]

The Shanghai said: "I was lovin' the Dominicker hen. (2x)
If she don't get me down, I'll love her again." [Yodel]

[The term "yodel" is used rather loosely here. Sometimes it's more like falsetto scat singing.]
