Here is (I think) a rendering into modern Italian of most of the text that Joe Offer posted above, at 03 Jul 00 - 07:51 PM. I found this in several old books (by using Google Books), and I inserted line breaks so that it would correspond line by line. However, this is shorter than the text Joe posted. I don't know why, but all the copies of the Italian text that I found broke off at the same point.

This was really just a search and copy and paste job for me; I really don't understand Italian, although I can see the correspondence between homo and uomo, etc. Beware of typos.


Altissimo, onnipotente, buono Signore,—
tue son le laudi, la gloria, l'onore — ed ogni benedizione —
A te solo si confanno
e nullo uomo è degno di nominar te.

Laudato sia Dio mio Signore — con tutte le creature —
specialmente messer lo frate sole —
il quale giorna ed allumina nui per lui, —
ed ello è bello — e radiante per grande splendore,
e di te, Signore, — porta ogni significanza.
