A Dutch ancestor of mine ran the "Dutch Herring Fishery company" in Billingsgate, London between 1810-1825. He seems to have had his own boat in Yarmouth, and he pickled herrings in the Dutch manner for local consumption and for export to the West Indes. (Won a gold medal in 1814 for them).

I don't know of any associated songs, but would be interested in finding some.
