Anyone remember the poem out of the old Childcraft Books, about Skinny Miss Snipkin and fat Mrs. Wobblechin? They had a spat about leaving the window open, so that Mrs. Wobblechin could stay cool; or closed, so that Miss Snipkin could stay warm. At one point she says, "Will you put the window down? You are freezing me to death!"

Early fall has come to the high plains of Wyoming and I am sleeping really well. We have a large swamp cooler in our bedroom window the fan of which has two speeds. I like to leave it on low, at night. With the temperature dipping to the low 40's, it keeps the bedroom in the cool 60's, sometimes just a little colder. Just right for snuggling under the covers and sleeping well.

Not so for Roger! Three a.m. this morning I am awakened by a sudden cessation of noise; no fan, no air moving. Can't sleep without air movement. I finally manage to string together a "What are you doing?!" To which he replies, "I am cold!!"

We are different sleepers. The extra blanket was sandwiched between us. If I had been cold, I would have drag it onto my carcass. He has to wake up and turn things off! I throw the extra blankie on him; get up and come into the computer room, since I am now wide awake.

A trivial thing perhaps, but another ravel-ey string in the woven times of our lives. Tonight, I will mend it with making sure he has lots of covers on his side of the bed.*bg*
