I am but mortal, that I wish to hold
Onto what I've found. You have given hope,
And brought back verse to life: Am I so cold
As to ignore desires? Has heart the scope
To worship muse, and not care for her form?
I care, yet wonder if I have the right
That dreams desire: Might I my hopes keep warm
With thoughts of you, and visions of your light?
You know only my words: How might I show
That thought of you is source to verse, and dreams?
How might I dare to let these desires grow,
Yet keep you as my muse, to heart redeem?
I would risk all, save your smile, for your kiss:
But, aiming for your love, what if I miss?
