I found musical friends by offering a class or two in an adult education program. I believe in the UK this is called 'The Open University.'

One class was in early music and the other was on Irish flute. A few people in the class said, "This is so much fun. Why don't we do it regularly?" And so we did.

Another way you might find other players is by talking to church music ministers. They are often aware of who plays what.
