The platform, Vermillion 308A, has been in operation for some time, with seven wells, one of which blew out. The wells are primarily gas well, with minor oil.
Apache is in the process of buying Mariner, the company operating the blown well, for $3.9 billion.
During August, the well produced 9.e million cu. ft. gas/day and 1400 bbl. oil and condensate/day.

A work-over crew was on the well, which was temporarily shut down, "sanding and welding."
