In the 1880s a jeweler named Spitz installed a free-standing clock on the sidewalk outside his shop, Santa Fe, NM. I saw in the online paper that it has just been repaired and was in operation again. Don't know who has it now, but the jeweler died many years ago. The clock is being installed again on the Santa Fe Plaza.
The brass workings weigh 45 pounds, and fit inside a cast iron free-standing case. It is a windup clock.
The clocksmith said it was trying to rig a ship inside a wastebasket.
